I provide bespoke coaching tailored to your current ability level, aspirations, and specific goals. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced amateur, I arrive at every session with a structured lesson plan featuring engaging, high-stretch exercises designed to elevate your game. Prices are reasonable, with discounts available for juniors, longer sessions, groups and block bookings.
Premium Playing Conditions: To ensure the highest quality experience, I use tournament-standard 1G balls, both plain and spotted, to help you visualize spin and cue ball control. Coaching is available at my partner clubs King's in Blackburn and Elite at Lostock Hall, where I can reserve heated tables for optimal playing conditions. Coaching can also take place at your private venue, but please note that you will need permission from the club or table owner first (some clubs aren't happy for tables to be reserved for coaching).
Structured Progression: For juniors, beginners, and intermediates, I recommend the WPBSA "White to Black" framework. This provides a clear, progressive pathway that quickly becomes challenging, even for experienced players. For those with professional ambitions, I offer an exclusive Elite Level Package designed to push your skills and your application to the absolute limit.
Note: For younger players (particularly under 16s), we ask that a parent or responsible adult stays throughout the session.
My philosophy is simple: we measure to understand the 'as-is' and drive performance improvement.
Data-Driven Insights: All clients receive continuous feedback—both in real-time during sessions and afterwards via detailed reports. This data-driven approach uncovers deep insights into your game that traditional coaching often misses.
Targeted Improvements: Data analytics assists in highlighting technique issues, such as incorrect sighting or cueing faults. These insights are enlightening and transformative, providing a clear roadmap for correction.
Visual Feedback & Progress Tracking: I support these findings with slow-motion video capture, offering immediate visuals to support our conversations and accelerate improvement. Capturing data from day one also provides tangible proof of your progress, as the client report opposite shows.
For Advanced Players: These methods are vital for setting stretching goals and targets, ensuring every practice session is properly focused for maximum benefit.
This is a genuine client report, designed for a beginner at WPBSA Red level.
The report uses the data captured during our sessions, highlights areas to focus on and shows progression. This report design is © Iain Houghton.
Take your coaching further with the science of motion. For long-term clients, I use industry-leading kinematics software to map your technique in 3D space.
Just as top-tier golf and cricket coaches analyse a swing or delivery, I can pinpoint specific metrics in your cue action to drive measurable, high-performance results.
I take care of all the analysis, and I'll translate the results into easily understandable feedback.
The example above shows the horizontal movement of the cue tip before and after striking the ball. You can clearly see the even feathering, the controlled pause before delivery, and the extended follow-through. This level of detail allows us to identify hidden issues and provides objective proof that your game is moving in the right direction.
Timing: We can measure your drive through the ball to develop timing, ensuring you achieve maximum spin and reaction without forcing the shot.
Consistency: Through the power of kinematic analysis, we gain a scientific understanding of your action. This technology allows us to instantly pinpoint minor short-term flaws and monitor your mechanical improvements over weeks and months, ensuring you have a solid foundation that performs reliably when it matters most.
